Got a 2001 F350 that I am going to install the Pioneer AVIC N2 system in on Tuesday. Any concerns from others that have installed one? Did anyone use the 2 DIN cover plate or did you use the extra DIN room below the AVIC install? If so, what did you install in the spare area?
I installed AVIC-N2 on my 2004 F-250 on my own. I got a bracket from Crutchfield for the head unit. Basically, the bracket has the single DIN above and a little pocket below. I use the lower pocket to store my business cards and remote.
As far as the installation, there are three wire you might have some troubles to find the connection source. You need to find the speed pulse wire, reverse light positive wire, and parking brake switch negative ground wire.
The unit locked out the ability to play DVD movie while the vehicle is in motion, but I over-ride the lockout. The over-ride will void the warrenty. The over-ride is very easy to do.
I installed the separate brain unit under the storage bin beneath the rear passenger seat and ran all the wire under the floor carpet.
Chiahunw, I thought with the newer N2 that because it is also wired into the motion sensor that that would also lock out the ability to watch DVD's on the road? ANy links to how you over-rode the lockout?
Did you go through the A pillar to run your gps sensor and attach above the driver or did you go through the back brake light? thanks...
I mounted GPS antenna on the center of the dash board where it meets the windshield. There is a screw/bolt cover plate which you can easily remove. There will be a hole which you can run the wire thru and comes out right behind the head unit. All you need to do is cut a little notch on the screw/bolt cover plate and use double-sided tape to secure the antenna on the cover plate. I do get very good GPS signal.
I have the AVIC-N1 and have the same dash kit as chiahunw, with the pocket below it. I'm curious how chiahunw got around the dvd lockout mechanism as well since it's based off the internal gyroscope.
I went through my 3rd brake light for both my navigation and xm antenna's. Pic of it is in my gallery under "misc pics". No pics of the unit itself but I can take one of the dash if needed.
My next option to add to mine is a camera under the front end (so I can see things BEFORE I hit them) and the 5.1 digital processor. Movies are hard to hear at 70mph, you constantly have to change the volume in dialogue vs. action scenes.

I finished the install of my N2 today and I can only bypass the brake switch by tapping the emergency brake one notch so I can play DVD's... I want to find out how Chianuw did his...
FYI, the N2 does NOT have a sensor that tells if the vehicle is in motion to lock out the DVD while underway. The only lock out looks like the emerency brake. I did install the gps unit at the base of the glass on the dash and that is real nice. Will post pix when I can... anyone want a nice Ford factory AM/FM 6 CD radio???
Hmm, I've heard differently from everyone over on a Pioneer board. Are you sure you got a N2? It should have a XM/Navtraffic logo on the bottom left of the screen. Other than that, they're very similar. I think it even might say AVIC-N2 on there too, not sure though. Don't mean to insult your intelligence, just verifying you have a N2 since all I've heard about them is that you can't bypass the dvd lockout. On the N1, you can bypass the emergency brake switch by just grounding the e-brake wire (green wire I believe). Just know that this is illegal in all, if not most, states.
Silver, no insult taken... Yes, defintely N2. Box says so and so does the instructions, the display has the correct logo too. Check out my gallery and see some of the pix I uploaded. Next upgrade will be the XM subscription, rear camera and XM traffic I think (in that order). I will order XM shortly however and enjoy those sounds... Got the info on the N2 DVD player from a pro system installer so not positive but have known him the past 5 years so I trust his opinion... but... been fooled before...
Go aweigh.
So you do have it working now and you can watch a movie while you drive. You will love the back up camera, it is one of my favorite options on my N1. Wondering has anyone added the 5.1 on their N1 or N2? The TV add on works the best of any TV in a vehicle I have owned as it has 2 antennas and they are powered.
