Moving Up to PSD 3.73. Need advise, help please.
Hey People,
Well it seems I go from a 2002 F250 4x4 V10 Crew Manual to a 2004 F150 SC 4x4 6.5 to looking at PSD 3.73. Both nice trucks, but didn't fit my needs, and besides, I don't want to pay high monthly payments anymore.
The one that I am currently interested is a 2000 F350 4x4 Reg. Cab, 3.73 Rear manual 6spd with 62,875 miles on it. The asking price is 17,950. I'm sure I can negotiate the price down, and the truck looks pretty good. What should I be looking for in this model and not being an aggressive driver, what mpgs should I expect. All help is much appreciated. BTW, I never owned a diesel, but always wanted one. It will be mostly for commuting and work. No large haulings at this point.
Bring on the info people.

That will be a very nice truck, and if it meets your needs space-wise, you'll love it.
My 2000 has been very good to me, and I'd do it all over again if I needed to.
You may find that the back seat is desireable, however. It's not like it will kill your fuel economy to have one.
Average MPG, if you keep your foot out of it will be at least high 15's. Likely a couple more if a lot of highway miles.

I had my 2000 f250 4x4 auto super cap 3.73 gears for a year now. Most of it's back and forth to work I get 14 to 17 mpg most of the time on this type of driving. Have made two trips to Mt. pulling our fifthwheel a 29 foot dubble slide Sprinter LA get 11 to 13 mph. Made one side trip in Mt. we went to Cody Wy. form McAllister Mt. 231miles oneway got 21 mpg going to Cody and 20 mpg back to McAllister liked that.
Truck had 36,000 when I bought it has 45,000 now.

Sounds like a great deal... And i think you would be very happy with it, as i am with mine.... The only thing that i think you should think of is you are going from a crew to a reg... Not sure i would like down sizeing... But thats just my opinion.
BTW i went from a reg to a crew... I dont know how i lived with out one.
Hope this helped!!!!

thats a good price with relatively low mileage. i would jump on it if the body/interior is in good shape.
CAUTION- one thing i would warn you of, is of a condition called "PMS" (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome). when you buy the truck, you think "nah i wont do anything to it". i was the same way, i ended up starting off with a 46637 filter, then a 4'' MBRP, and then i stepped up to edge juice chip with attitude monitor. before the chip, the overhead was reading 15.7 mpg, and after the chip (even on race setting 4) it reads 21-21.5 mpg. a worthwhile improvement. i got it for the monitor, but mileage gains and awesome drivability and tons of power is awesome too

I have a 99 F250 PSD auto had it for over 2 years. Great truck. I get 14-15mpg with 33s all day long. With stock size tires I was getting 16-17mpg. I have 4 inch exhaust, superchip program, and accel filter. The maintence is alot more expensive then a gas truck. But you have more power and alot more on tap if you wanna play with it. My buddy has a 2004 F350 with 6.0 PSD has 8 inch lift 38 in. swampers he gets 16mpg with stock gears 3.73. No chip or other mods to motor. You'll like it I'm sure.
