96 powerstroke help
i just bought a 96 f250 with 317k. i am having a problem with power it runs strong but it smokes real bad on take off and then it clears up and goes on . i had it checked yesterday and the only code that came up was the egr backpressure switch. i took it off and cleaned it and the tube. it was stopped up. it didnt help . any ideals? when i mash the pedal it dosent wont to go it stalls and then it just goes and runs good

A couple things I can think of. Check your exhaust back pressure valve. Its a butterfly valve on the exhaust outlet of your turbo. Make sure its open and staying open. You can manually disconect it if needed. Next I would check and change the fuel filter. Make sure your air filter is clean and unrestricted. The black smoke really means the engines not getting enough air.

it blows white smoke out ,it acts like it loads up with too much fuel but after it blows out the big puff of white smoke it clears up and goes on. i changed the fuel filter. no i dont hear the exhausht hissing. thanks for the help
