Mileage is a big deal right now,so I have been checking mine every fill-up.Something a bit unusual showed up.I had put on about 245 miles pulling a Boler camper and got 15.6mpg.Then this last week I had a job in town (6 miles from home on the hiway) and got about 14.2mpg.My explanation is that the O2 sensor is going bad. Am I going in the right direction? Should I be changing the O2 sensor?
It's recommended every 60,000 it be changed. I just put another on mine as I was close to that 60,000 And noticed a idle improvement this is still the first tank of gas so Need a few more to get a good idea.-Bob
To add more info the truck is a 95 5.8 automatic.Towing the trailer with the cruz set at 60 mph and running around I use ths thin shelled raw egg under the right foot method.I question the O2 sensor based on the amount of time the truck was running in each situation.Haven't pulled the codes yet.Would a bad O2 s sensor cause high fuel consumtion in cold weather(-20F and colder, I live in Canada)?
