Hello, I have a 99 V10 with 58,000 miles. The last couple of week I have had trouble starting my truck. It would crank and begin to start and then die. I would wait a minute and try again and it wouuld start. Yesterday, I went to ran an errand it finally started after 3 times of acting like it was getting very little gas but it ran fine after it started. When I went to go home it would not start. I did some checking and I tapped the IAC with no success. I removed that schrader valve cap on the fuel line rail on top of the engine and pressed the valve and no fuel came out even with the engine cranking. Also, a few months ago I noticed that my radio had a buzz. I have since found out that it may have been caused by the fuel pump.
I believe my fuel pump has gone out but I am asking for other suggestions that I may have overlooked (sometimes when you have one thing stuck in your mind you overlook the obvious). If it is the fuel pump is there a thread for replacing the pump. I found a very good thread for replacing the IAC motor.
Thanks and look forward to hearing you ideas so I can get back on the road agiain.
I would lean toward the fuel pump and or fuel filter on this one. Simply because you stated you didn't get any fuel when you depressed the schrader valve. Instead of doing it with the engine cranking, just turn the key to the run position and listen to here the pump. Obviously hearing nothing is bad, but if you do hear it wait for it to stop, turn the key off, then check the schrader valve. You should get some pressure, if not the pump has issues.
If you hear the fuel pump come on, it may just be clogged at the tank from some crappy fuel. If you haven't replaced the fuel filter, that would be another place to go. Check the air filter and plugs too if you get a chance. Never know, it may be a simple fix.
This has come up a few times before and guys have stated the IAC was the culprit.

it sounds like you are having the same problems i am currently having. a truck with that low of miles shouldnt need a fuel pump. i would seriously consider taking the IAC valve off and cleaning it with carb cleaner or getting a new one. you also might want to replace your fuel fitler if you havent done so in a while. i am going to clean my IAC valve tonight and see if that solves the problems i have been having. lets hope its not the fuel pump!!
My 1998 Windstar needed a new fuel pump at 8,000 miles. And you couldn't change just the pump, you had to change the tank also . Covered by warranty of course, but it happens.
If you decide to change the pump pick up a Haynes manual; the procedure is on Page 4A-7. The manual will run you about $15 but is well worth it in the long run. It also has lots of pictures.
The buzz in on AM and more so on one certain station but is on all AMs.
I read a thread were a electronic filter needed to be placed on the fuel pump.
I am going to go the cheaper routes first, fuel filter, IAC and then the fuel pump.
Thanks for the tip on the Hayes manual. I have purchased them in the past for my other vehicles.
Now all I need to find is some time.
