So I took the truck in a few weeks ago for the banging in the rear end, which many posted was a "greasing the slip yoke, replace the clutch packs, and replace the drive shaft" problem. All I got was a stupid reflash. Yes, it did resolve the banging in the drivetrain while accellerating out of a turn, but then a shuddering in the drivetrain replaced the bang. It was almost like the reflash drug out the shift to soften the bang. I complained to the dealer, and they said to bring it back. I'm really getting sick of this already because this isn't the first time. Anyway, the shuddering sloooowly went away for 95% of the time, so I said okay, I'll live with it for 5% of the time. Then the truck wouldn't start, or it would take a loooong time to, and they found the #3 injector was bleeding down. That was replaced. Then (and now) when the engine is warm, she starts with a "wooooosh" after it fires. WTF? Figuring that maybe I was being too picky, I figured "I'll live with that, too". But, the tranny/drivetrain issue still aggrevates me. The dealer says they cannot reproduce the problem. The transmission will never shift the same way for two days in a row. Into second gear is always a harder shift, while every other one is as smooth as silk and almost undetectable. I think the reflash boogered up the second gear shift. If I am driving in traffic between 25 and 35 and then get on the go pedal, she'll fall on her face and then kick in to go. The shifting in general is just plain erratic. One day it's smooth without issue, the next day it falls on it's face between some shifts and double downshifts when getting on the go pedal very mildly.
So you ask why I vocalize this? Well, I was anticipating on possibly buying this truck in spring 2006 from the company for a personal vehicle. It's a nice rig (not a Powerstroke, though) and I need something to haul a trailer. Gas prices may force the company to push me into a car as I drive about 1000 miles per week. Now, I am a little fearful that if I buy this truck with 50-60K on it (out of warranty) it will puke, and there goes $2500 for a tranny... and I certainly do not have time to keep taking this thing back in for the dealer to say "we could not duplicate the problem", or "it shifts just fine". I've driven more miles than most (and many in F-150's), and I think I know when something is wrong... but the dealer is always right, eh?
I have the same problem with my 2005 Screw. It does it once in awhile but I know if I take it to the dealer it will not repeat itself. This sucks alot.
