So the wheels really do fall off ...
Ha ha ha!!!! Real reason -- got here Monday and only just got Internet today. But I had some good laughs reading your posts!Okay, so clarifications, sorry about the vagueness of the original post:
Wheel fell off the TRUCK in Medicine Hat AB. Otherwise the whole trip was a breeze. Truck performed great and the trailer was solid as a rock.
General impression of the Trans Canada Hwy -- it was best in BC and in parts of SK. The rest of the prairies including AB were average. Especially bad in Calgary & Medicine Hat, but AB doesn't seem to have bypasses so can't really compare to elsewhere. Worst roads were after I left the TCH on Manitolin Island & Hwy 6 from Tobermory down to Guelph. Nice roads so far in Oxford & Wellington County. Also particularly nice on the local section of the 401.
Gas was cheapest in Canmore AB at 1.05 and the rest of AB around 1.08 making it 11-13 cents cheaper than when I left BC. By the time I got to Winnipeg, the prices were coming down all over (until I got to Northern Ontario, where they didn't seem to know). In the high .90's on the Tobermory peninsula, but cheapest in Guelph at 0.96 when I arrived Monday. Burlington was the same last night (with monstrous lineups) and up to $1.02 this morning. Tillsonburg has been at $1.02 since I got here.
Observations on trucks in Ontario -- where are the old ones like mine??? Every one I've seen is brand new and shiny!!! I feel like a BC redneck!!!! The ones I have seen that are my era (92-96) are all in better shape than mine. I was expecting to see alot more rust!!!!
And yeah, I was worried about living in T'burg but I certainly don't think I can tolerate anything more urban. Seems like there are lots and lots of jobs all over, just don't know what I'm going to do with myself yet.

The other thing I forgot to ask is where are the Super Dutys? In BC there are probably 10 of them to every F150 and in any 15 minute drive you can count dozens of them. Here I think I've only seen two in a week.
Also too many Ch**y's if you ask me.
You're right about Alberta not having bypass roads or decent freeways, even, thru town, the number one thru Calgary has a stoplight every two blocks. Calgary will be a nice city when it's finished
At least we have decent speed limits in Alberta. But that ring road around Winnipeg is sure slick.
Last time I went thru Sask on the number one (notice the TCH is #1 in all provinces until you get to Ontario?) the highway was one mile of new highway, then one mile of goat path, like a patchwork quilt all the way to Regina.
So you don't have a job in Ont? what inspired you to just pull up stakes and leave the Super-natural then?

In Kelowna BC, there is no accomodations available in town for less than $200k, even a 1 bedroom condo. People in BC say, well ... it's just as expensive in Toronto ... But why should we compare a town with a population of 100k and 5 hours from either Vancouver or Calgary to the largest city in Canada? Now I could move to places like 100 Mile House, Williams Lake or Quesnel BC, but jobs would be hard to come by and although property would be cheaper, gas & other living expenses would be just as much. Here, I can live in the rural areas of a dozen or more cities in SW Ontario and still access good paying jobs.
Everything else is cheaper here too ... car insurance, liter of milk, fruit & vegetables, gasoline, you name it, it's cheaper ...
If you keep your eyes open, there are at least a dozen different 73-79 Ford trucks in the Ingersoll/Woodstock area that are driven regularly. Those are about the only ones I pay attention to, but I keep my eyes open for the 80-86 trucks now too, since I have an 86.Welcome back to Ontario.

PS You've probably already noticed that Elgin County has the best roads in the area.
Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
It's all the people who cashed out in Vancover (or toronto) with a wad of moola in their jeans buying the place up, for their retirement.
Took a trip to Montreal one time in a motorhome, went the American way down and came back the Canadian way. Stopped in Ottawa to resupply, and bought the cheapest groceries ANYWHERE on the whole trip. Staple foods were about half or less what the rest of us pay. No wonder the politicians there are so out of touch with reality.

I live in the GTA and there are tons of Super Duty's in my neighbourhood. My buddy has one, he's the one who got me interested in Ford pickups. Had Jeeps for years.

Can't believe auto insurance is more expensive anywhere.
