My engine just recently started to audibly ping for the first 1/2 mile or so when I fire it up, even with light throttle in a parking lot. Then it goes away for good until it cools down.
I also just realized I have a dynosource chip that was in it when I bought it but always used 87 octane and still do.
where is the ping comming from? Try using a long screwdriver to pinpoint the spot. if you put the screwdriver tip on something (say the Valve cover) and put your ear on the other end cupping you hand around the screwdriver and your ear. you will be able to hear if it is where the ping is comming from. Another possibility is that you have an exhaust leak at the manifold that can sound like a ticking noise. As the engines warms uo it may be sealing itself up. Look for signs of black soot around where the manifolds bolt to the head. Also look for missing studs, they have been know to break.
