coolant leak?
so i changed it out this morning. dot everything back together, looking right, everything tight, i double cheacked, and running. now the only problem is that it leaks a bunch of coolant. doesnt look like its coming from the new pump cuz its dry as a bone. all the water lines going and coming to the new pump are tight and dry as a bone. looks like it is coming from somewhere behind the pump on the block maybe? i am very stumped. anything i might has missed that could make a lot of coolant to leak? am going to look at it again this weekend, poor truck now its stuck on the street and i cant drive it

Have you got a pressure checker - that'd help, too...
Good Luck,
Did you pull your thermostat housing neck. These buggers are prone to corrosion and can be difficult to get to reseal after dissasembly. This would cause coolant to flow down the back/sides of the pump.
Secondly, There are a series of gaskets to be used with the new pump. Think about what gaskets are left.
Thirdly, a bad water pump can be just that, bad, bad for the timing chain cover. If the bearing goes south, the impeller can score or even destroy the timing chain cover. If this happens you'll have coolant in your oil. Check your oil. If there is coolant in it, you'll know in a second; it will look like a milk shake.
There are many different water pump configs on the 302. Which motor did you have?

but i found out that there is a plate that is on the back of the water pump which is only on the 460 motor. pulled thatand resealed it and now its dry as a bone, and it gave me a chanse to paint my water pump. :-)
