Hauling bobcat?

Do you think that my trusty 300 could pull a full sized bobcat without damaging the engine/tranny it will only be for a couple of miles i hust dont want to reck anything. I have a 4spd manual with granny gear, 11400 miles, 3.55gears thank you.

The 300, tranny, and rear-end will handle it. Will the truck handle it.

IF you are just moving a couple miles along country roads, you can putter along at 30-35 mph no matter WHICH pickup you have. If you need to move through heavy (city) traffic, steering and braking are the limiting factors. F-350 no problem. probably same for F250. F-100 SWB with ice cream truck tires, well, I wouldn't risk it.

Back when I had my '84 F-150 4X4, a buddy called me one Saturday morning and said, "I rented this bobcat to do some landscaping, and I hooked up to the trailer with my S-10 and couldn't move it. Can you come over and get this home for me?" So I went over to the rental place, hitched on to it with my bumper hitch (all i had) and pulled it to his house (little traffic, 2-3 miles, 40mph tops). Then he had me haul it back there that night. I went in while he was paying for it and asked the guy behind the counter, "How much does that thing weigh?" "7,000 lbs. combined" he said. I couldn't believe it. I knew it was back there, but the truck pulled it and stopped it OK. Love that 300-6!

You'll be fine. I've had my GCWR up to 10,000 lbs in an F-150 with a 300, M5OD, and 3.08 gears.

Just take it easy and don't forget it's back there.

I'm pretty confident that a 300 will pull anything you hook to it. It's the stopping when you're done pulling that gets me nervous.

14K worth of hay bales, but that's with 3/4ton suspension and 4.10's. And experience

I wouldn't try it with anything less than a 3/4 ton. The engine and transmission are not the weak link. Suspension, breaks are the limiting factor.

The longer the truck the better...

My father had a reg cab long bed F-250, towing package and 351w with the 5sp granny 1st gear.

It had 200k on it at the time, and would still pull the New Holland skidsteer around, but when you hit a bump, i swear the front tires would lift off the ground.

Make sure you dont have a lot of windy roads on the route!

The 300 is a working motor and can do the job. I have one in my 66 1ton with 4 spd. It hauls water tanks.
Its the truck itself. Most 1/2 tons are not designed to tow that much weight. The suspensiona nd brakes.
I have a 78 3/4 ton for pulling my Bobcat and trailer. I did it once with my 86 1/2 ton and found it hard on my truck with the stopping. Oh the 3/4 ton has a 460 in it. Busted a vlave this past July.
The thing is having the right truck, and do not tow on the bumper, Seen lots of those bend or buckle under that weight. Hitches connected to frames are best.

Since i own a truck much like yours (1985 F-250 inline 6 auto) I say it will. that is as long as it won't pull the front tires off the ground. if your rear suspension is in good shape (unlike mine) i think you'll be good. i have only had to back down from one trailer before and that was a 24 foot enclosed trailer full of my bosses belongings (i was helping him move) i think the truck would have pulled it just fine. but my rear springs are so shot i was afraid the trailer was going to drag on the ground. i did pull a friends race car though. the truck squatted down in the rear a lot but you barely knew it was back there. i realize that a bobcat probably weighs more, but i would try and load it farther back on the trailer to reduce tougue weight. if you do that i think you will be fine.

No do not put the bobcat further back on the trailer. It has to be slightly ahead of the axles with the weight going forward. The trailer will fish tail and you are at a high risk of losing the trailer or jackknifing.
This is from years of experience of pulling these things.
