I own a 1976 Ford F-100. My A/C was not cooling so I took it to the garage to see what the problem was. The mechanic said it was low on freon.(R-12). He put in 3 lbs of freon. A week later the freon was all gone. I took it back to the garage and I told him it was blowing hot air. Now he tells me the evaporator has a leak in it. Ok, I told the mechanic to go ahead and replace the evaporator. Everything seemed to be ok after the evaporator was installed. Two day's later it's not cooling like it did. He checked the high& low side pressures and said they were ok. He told me I might have lost some cooling capacity because the new evaporator has more (or less) cooling fins. I have spent over 800.00 and the air still doesn't cool properly. I am about ready to give up!
The problem is mechanic, not the truck. In hindsight, you see you should have gone somewhere else after the guy dumps 3 lbs of gas into a leaky system. I guess you'll have to read your service ticket for the warranty and go from there. Or cut and run to a new mechanic who cares about their work and their customer. Sorry, no easy answer for this problem, GL.

This guy was my dads mechanic for several years. Dad never did have any problem with this guy. People change I guess. I agree with you, I should have hauled a** after he dumped 3lbs of R-12 into a leaky system. My next door neighbor recommended a shop they go to to have their A/C serviced. Thanks for replying to my post.

Where in TEXAS do you live? I know an Old Boy in Houston that can fix your A/C problem. Gar-own-teed.
I would love his phone number I have a 2005 F-150 XLT 5.4 with A/C problems and only 900 miles...Ford told me that their warranty service had done the best that they can for my problem...It only blows 46 degrees at the vents on low fan speed day or nite I can hear the A/C compressor cycling.... I believe I must have a software program to change this setting... Help me here if you can... Thank you in advance... Ford won't help me Told me not to come back complaining about this problem anymore or they would charge me the cost...I only went 2 times to Helfman Ford and they just would not stand up for me either...I know the Mech and they told me this was a complant from many 05 owners...........HELP
