How many folks have put there boost gauge sensor in the map line versus tapping a hole in the pipe. I have heard from some of the gauge companies of problems with the map line install on a 6.0. Thanks for any input.
Do a search here. There's some discussion of old on using the MAP line fitting for a boost gauge. Many people have seen fluctuations and low numbers.
I pulled the intake elbo, drilled and tapped. I can snap a photo later this evening if you'd like. If you're using plastic tubing, route it where it won't melt... And use the little inserts at the compression fittings so the line doesn't get kinked. It'll leak and you'll lose boost pressure. Also, straight aft of the elbo, (yes, quite nearly directly forward of the oil filter is the thickest portion of the elbo. But it is simple to drill and tap so that filter removal isn't interfear'd with. I have a three gauge pod on the drivers pillar. http://www.cnw.com/~hotrod/Toys/PSD/DriversDash.JPG -I wouldn't do that again. I'd go for the top of the dash or above the mirror mount. Driver's side of the dash at the pillar, there's plenty of room to run tubing and wires. For the gauges lights, I tapped the instrument wire off of the head light switch. (that way it dims.) The current draw on that circuit is well within the spec.
I like the A-Pillar mounts. Most important to me is exhaust temps at eye level so I do not stray from my point of view. Just a personal preference issue.
Thanks for all the replies I chickened out of doing the taps myself have a great diesel place near me they are going to tap the manifolds on monday. I got everything else in, I am liking the phantom autometers. Again thanks for the help.
