98 expy 4.6 4wd. i found the sway bar disconected from the front drivers side when i changed the oil last night, looks like it is missing a piece at the top (bushing?) that the other side has. any help on fixes would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
VERY common problem. The stock sway bar bushings on these shear off all the time. I found mine while doing front brakes and replaced them on both sides. The funny thing is my wife's 98 Taurus just had the same issue on the sway bar in the back.
I got my replacements from Big A (they are Moog Chassis parts) for about $25 a piece. Its a fairly straightforward fix too.
Happened to me too on a 99 Exp. I had a tie rod break on me this summer (pulling into my driveway, luckily). Dealer called while fixing it and said that my sway bar links were both missing. I had noticed that something appeared to be gone when I was changing the tires, but I'm no mechanic, so had no clue. After they put new ones on, the steering did seem to be a little tighter (better). As was said, this appears to be a common problem.
VERY common, and if your missing one, replace both. They are usually sold in sets and it is best to go ahead and do them both while your already dirty. I noticed much better steering and much less body roll after replacing my broken one and the non-broken one that looked like it may break at any time.DOC

I would not doubt your ti-rod failure is partially because of you end links being non existent. Without your sway bar working thats allot of extra pressures when turning placed on your ti-rods.
Thank you for all the advice..I'll just get the rods replaced and the sway bars, and everything that is mentioned..that way it will work right..where should I go and have it fixed???thank you so much..I know zilch about trucks, cars..the whole shabang..Cindy-here

Any shop that does alignments would be able to do the repair for you pretty quick.
