for the last couple of days i have notice that my truck isnt starting properly. it will turn over, sound like its going to start, then when the rpms come down from what the start has spun them up too, its like someone turned the ignition off. i thought maybe the truck had a clogged fuel filter so, replaced it yesterday and this morning it did it again. if the truck has been running already then it will start just fine, if it has sat overnight it does the strange start up i described above. i used my hypertech powerprogrammer and i got a code 7A00 that might be linked to the problem maybe not. any ideas would be greatly appriciated.

I had the same problem with my 01 V-10. The Fuel pump was bad. Had it to the dealer 6 times towed in twice. They kept telling me nothing was wrong. When my warentee was up they said the fuel pump was bad. They wanted $700.00 to fix it. I fought with the dealer and Ford because I knew all along it was a bad fuel pump. I ended up paying $100.00 the dealer ate the rest of the cost.
yes if its not holding pressure than it is a bad fuel pump. Fuel pumps have a one way check valve (not sure all do, but I think most of them) that lets fuel go from the tank to the engine, but not back the other way. if the valve is in the pump, when you turn the truck off the fuel will drain back to the tank (after sitting for a certin period of time). Causing it to have a hard time trying to start after it sits for too long, because you have to get the fuel back to the engine from the tank. GL

Next time try holding the gas pedal slightly while starting it. If it runs then dies if you let up on the gas then it's your IAC valve. Very common problem.
thanks everyone for the help. i am going to be checking the IAC valve to see if thats the problem. if i give it a little gas it will just start right up. thanks again
If you have a helper, have them hold the gas down slightly to just keep the truck running and tap on the iac gently with a hammer (cast portion, not the barrel) , if the idle corrects the valve is bad.
