Replace your IAC (Idle Air Control) its job is to meter the air when the throttle plate is closed or in other words when the gas pedal is not depressed. Such as at idle or a stoplight. If it isn't functioning properly the engine gets starved for air and dies.

It is a silver colored can with a 2 wire connector going into it. It is secured to the top of the intake by 2 screws.

To remove it disconnect the 2 wire connector remove the 2 screws and pull it off the intake.

You can check, but these things are cheap, just replace it.

Like, under 100 for OEM quality stuff. And if you don't you feul economy is penalized, and at todays prices, it doesn't take long to make up the difference.

Autozone's price is $55. Others should be similar. OEM grade is better than the Aftermarkets, so you will likely pay more for a good one, but thats cheap to keep your vehicle running right, regardless of how new it is, or what make it is.

Welcome!

Go ahead and replace the IAC with a new motorcraft one. While you are there, pick up a set of wires, plugs, and O2 sensor. Probably needs them. So you are looking at a $300 van more or less that will run for a long time.

BTW what is the millage on it?

Have you checked the fuel pressure, the fuel pump may getting weak. My SHO started to be hard to start and that was what it was. Just somrthing else to look at if the IAC is not the problem.

check the air filter...have you thought about maybe a full tune-up? the plugs can be a bother to get to and are frequently left in till death. what do your wires look like? any cracking on the insulation, oil , or grease? if the IAC isn't the problem I'd look at these things next...or first if you haven't replaced the IAC yet. also...if you look inside the IAC...the two holes on the bottom...it should appear fairly clean, if not, try spraying with a throttle body cleaner and see if that helps. if not then go ahead and replace it

Yeah, and don't look at tune up as wasted money, much newer vehicle require tune ups too, and it costs money no matter how you look at it. Many people look at a newer vehicle as an alternative to dumping money into a vehicle. I look at it as a 20,000 dollar tune up.
