the brake warning light on the instrament panel will not turn off. any ideas on why it would do this, and can anyone give me a link to a wiring diagram that might help me.
Thanx.
This light goes to the proportioning valve in the brake system below the master cylinder. Just to make sure this is the problem, take the wire off the proportioning valve, and if the wire is not rubbing metal anywhere, the light should go off.
If you find the proportioning valve is the culprit, then that means the plunger in the valve is not centered. This can be caused by:
There is something wrong with the front or rear brakes. This causes a pressure difference between the front and the rear, and shifts the plunger in the valve, making the light come on(it grounds the wire to make the light come on).
or, you just did some brake work, and when you were bleeding the brakes, the plunger got shifted to one side. Sometimes you can re-center the plunger by getting someone to hold pressure on the brakes, while you open a bleeder on the front or rear brakes.
