ive got an 01 f-150 XLT and it has the radio in it with the 6 disc changer behind the seat. i was just wondering if there are any RCA jacks in the back to an amp. If so how many and also was wondering what the 6 disc changer is pluged into. thanks for any help
There are no RCA's on the head unit. The CD changer plugs into a Ford proprietary connector. If you need to add an amp the easiest way is to buy an amp with line level inputs, or buy a line level converter to splice into the speaker wires and get sound to the amp. MTX has a few amps with line level inputs that automatically turn on with the radio saving you from running a remote turn on wire for simplicity.
how much do line level inputs usually run? and is it worth getting. im just wanting to hook my subs back up with out haveing to buy a new CD player at the moment. gas is takin all my money right now. i was looking at a few of the line level converters and what do i need for my set up and how exactly do i connect it to the radio. if u need to know my setup is 1 autotek 450 2 channel amp with 2 12" swiss audio subs. thanks

Line level inputs would be on the amp itself, if you have them. I checked out the Autotek online and didn't see any line level inputs on it, so you'll have to use line level converters. These just tap into your speaker wires and convert the speaker wire signal to a RCA signal, which would then plug into your amp. They're definitely worth it. I had a set on mine before I went to an aftermarket head unit and they worked flawlessly. They're pretty inexpensive too, I think I paid about $60 for the both of mine (you need 2, for left and right signals). Once you see what they consist of, you'll be able to figure out how to install them, fairly self-explanatory.
Actually they usually don't even cost that much. I think you can probably find one at just about any place that sells car audio stuff for less than $20. It won't sound quite as good as a straight RCA connection, but if you are happy with the factory head unit sound you will probably be happy with hooking up the amp this way.
I actually have mine hooked up this way until I can afford to upgrade my head unit. I'm trying to save up for the Kenwood DDX8017, which is going to cost me a pretty penny. Hope to have it in by November for the 12hour drive to northern Minn.
Mine cost me so much because they were of pretty high quality. They had a few adjustments on them that I didn't even need, but it was the only ones they had in stock at the time so I took 'em.
You'll love having a dvd player for the drive. I just drove from AZ to PA a couple months ago and playing a dvd (in my AVIC-N1) made the drive (32hr) go so much faster. Not to mention the navigation came in very handy. Nothing like popping up a hotel on the navi and calling and making reservations while you're on the road!
