Speedometer Jump

I have a '99 F-150 5.4, 4R70W tranny. Lately I have been noticeing that my speedometer likes to stick in one spot and then jumps to the correct speed. It doesn't seem to matter wiether I'm speeding up or slowing down, however it doesn't seem to do it all the time, just sometimes. Anybody with any input would be great. Thanks in advnace.

I could be wrong but it sounds like the guage is sticking if you ask me. If it was inside the transfer or transmission it would do it all the time. I have seen older model vehicles do that and it was the guage.

I beleive the whole cluster is one unit, I don't know if you can just replace the speedometer. The cluster is about 400.00 unless you can just change the speedometer. I would have it checked before just changing the part, lot of money with out being sure. you can have them check it with out replacing it, then if it is the problem change it your self takes about 30 to 45 min to change the cluster, hope fully though they sell just the speedo.
