Is it true that none of the '73-'79, 4X4's came stock with a 460? If it is true, how can I find documentation to verify that without running the VIN # of the truck in question.
How do you guys know this though? Where are you getting your info from? I need it documented to settle a dispute at a track I race at. The rules say your vehicle must have same engine for make and model. If a guy is running a '77 with a 460, sounds like he's cheatin'. Where can I find proof other than word of mouth?
Not rightly factory, but one guy I met said there used to be company conversions which converts from the M engine to a 460 in a 4x4. He bought a new 78 F250 4x4 with a 351M, went to a company, and came out with a 460.
I don't have too much details, but i had a '73 camper special with a 460 and i couldn't find anywhere that said they made any of those, so you never know.
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 08-Aug-02 AT 00:32 AM (EST)]the fact you cant or couldnt buy factory parts for the truck to put it in there? (probably not good enough)
like you cant buy ford factory 460 motor mounts, clutch, flywheel, bracketry etc designated for say a 78 f-150 4x4
you cant go to a parts store and get a motor mount for a 78 f-1504x4 with a 460, but you can for a 351m
Thanks, that will be helpful. I don't know if it will hold up against '78-'79 models though. Any other info would be greatly appreciated. I will probably need as much as possible.
