Pays to do it yourself
I just went through all my receipts for my truck. With the cost of the truck which was $6800 ( I think I paid a little high for the condition it was in) I have a total of $11,854 invested. Had I taken this to a mechanic or upholsterer and had the work done, I'd be well in the 20,000 bucks area easy. I still have a ways to go before I'm complete. Thanks to all the guys in here who gave me direction and advice on each project. Not only did I save $$$. I can say I did it myself and be able to look back on my accomplishment and learn from them. It pays to do it yourself when you can and ask questions. And best of all have fun doing it. (did I say that?)

I always try to do my own work also, and for several different reasons. First, what does it hurt to try? usually only labor hours. Second, alot of the highly paid professionals (alledged) are not as advertised and know no more than you do. Third, it sure feels good to look at your truck after you finished a certain step and know that you did it yourself. Fourth, and this is a big one, I can't afford to pay anyone (I can afford to piddle away my own labor hours)

Amen, if I had to pay for all the work that I've done myself I would still be on my first project. When I did this for a living I sometimes felt bad about the $$ I had to charge for work. The time and effort that goes into some of the smallest things can be astronomical.

I agee with fenders....been working on mines a lot except when it come to safety issues (brakes).....but all in all...its the thrill of the finish product and to say that you did it yourself...this site and forum has been the best help to me since I started my project in 2002...you guys all awesome and I have been recommending a lot of forders to this site...lets keep it going!!!!!

That really is a nice truck. I was looking in your gallery at everything. Do you have a pics in there of the outside when you bought it? I saw the interior and engine pics.

I always give credit to anyone who does his own work, regardless how it comes out, anyone can pay someone else to do it....I do everything but front end alignment, I dn't let anyone put a wrench on any of my trucks or mustangs except my son when I'm watching with an eagle eye
