86 tailgate & 88 box
Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can give me an answer to my problem. I'm replacing the box of my 86 f150 with a refinished box off of a 88 f150. Although the box on my 86 was in rough shape the tailgate is still in good shape and I hope to fit it on the 88 box. It looks like the latches and hinges are in close to the same place ,but as I found out they are rusted in place an it will take a lot to do this hardware change so it would be great to find out if it can be done before I go any further. I've searched through the forums til my eyes crossed with no luck in finding this swap. Any info or instructions would be great. Thanks..

This is not written in stone. But, to the best of my knowledge the hinges or pivots need to match the tailgate - not the bed. I believe that the diameter of the "cups" on the tailgates are different. If you still have the old parts that will be easy to check.
