I am a 19 yr old kid and my family has plenty of ford products in the driveway. I am interested in buying maybe a 77-79 f series that is mostly complete and just in need of some TLC. I am just starting to get familiar with these years. Any suggestions on what would be a better year to buy for a 70s' truck? what are the model lines? 150, 150 ranger etc? better engines? best engine? Thanks in advance for any info....

If you want a 4x4 go with a 78-79 year. Some stock parts in these years are considerd upgrades for earlier years. That will save you some work down the road.
It depends on how much cubic inches interest you. A 460 is a great power engine, and it is easilly upgradeable to get more, but with the gas the way it is this isn't a money saving option, and they didn't come stock in F-150 4wds, but they are a popular swap.
I like the 351M400 engines after rebuilds, but otherwise they aren't the biggest power house. 302s are ok, but more of a car engine. I'm not to knoledgeable about the 360/390 engines, but I've heard they make decent power.
I like the 78 79 years, you might want a F-250 with D60 rear and at least a D44HD front axle.
The base modle would be custom, explorer, ranger, ranger xlt, ranger lariet.
The only differences between all these are the out side molding, and the interior.
Make sure you get a part time 4x4, I know the full time 4x4s aren't to common, but I have one, and it is going to be a pain to convert to part time.
