That tray pulls out with alittle force. It was not hard to route the wires in the dash to go to the plug on the drivers side. All and all it took me and a friend less then a hour. Most of the time was looking for tools and thinking of how to mount it. Its good to have some hands around when your all twisted around under the dash.
what about just under the lower dash edge to the left ot the steering? Mine has metal tab about 3" wide and about 1 1/'2 deep. I was thinking that would work depending on the size of the controller
i mounted mine on the "knee" bolster plastic jsut under and to the right of the steering wheel. it is a pretty steep angle and i can just dial the setting for slight brake at stop ( yellow light) any more angle and it would not been able to adjsut properly. but it does work. the controller is mounted flush with the plastic. if you use a bracket and lay the controller a little flatter that woudl work too. I just tried to minimize the interferce with my knees.
I pull it off when not towing the electric brakes trailer.
gpeade,
that is exactly where i mounted my brake controller and i have not had the first problem with it. it has never left the truck since it was installed.

That's exactly where I put my Prodigy controller and it works fine there. I figured it must be meant for that as I couldn't figure out any other reason for it to be there. Takes about 10 minutes to install a prodigy brake controller with the dedicated wiring harness I bought with my controller (extra $10). Paid $99 for the controller from Rvwholesalers.com.
I mounted mine on the lower dash to the right of the steering column. I figured that was the best place since I use my right hand to control the controller if I need to manually use the trailer brakes, and it is with reach without having to bend to reach it.

This is where I put mine. It's kind of low if you are trying to find the button while driving, but it was the best location I could find.
