I've got a 79 regular cab with a bench seat and I'm trying to upgrade the audio system. Is there anywhere I can put my 6"x9" besides behind the seat. I've already got two tens and an amp back there so there isn't much room. Thanks.

When I was out muddin, I saw a guy that had 6x9s in the ceiling of his 78. They would fit, but the things would be screamin' in your ear! Just a thought.
you can buy an aftermarket piece of interior, and install a speaker on the floor of the passenger side, in the corner between the fender and the floor boards, with the aftermarket corner keeping the speaker safe from hazardous feet. Just a thought, driver side i haven't a clue seeing as how your brights footswitch would be in the way of putting one there as well. Good Luck to you.
Why do you need the 6X9's if you got two ten inch speakers with an amp behind the seat anyway? Just curious.
Personally, I think you are further ahead to lose the 6X9's and get some round speakers and put them in the door mounts - the doors are setup for it anyway (you can tuck 6x9's in there, but it is really tight - I've seen it done). Then once your rounds are in the doors for your mid-range, you might see a spot in the door for tweeters OR you could mount some tweets under the dash - VOILA - Surround Sound! Just my two cents!
Hope it helps to inspire!
Cheers!
This possible location for speakers is hard to describe, but here goes. I have a Highboy with the gas tank behind the seat. There is a big hole in the cab where the fuel filler hose passes through from the outside of the cab to the inside of the cab and into the gas tank. This hole on the inside of the cab looks plenty large enough (good depth too) to fit a 6x9 speaker. The hole would be located behind the door striker plate (towards rear of cab) and adjacent to the bench seat back. You would have to cut your own holes. Take a look at an in-cab tank on a Highboy and you will be able to see how big the space is behind the sheetmetal.
I have not seen speakers located here yet, but it's something I've had in my mind after I remove my in-cab tank.
I don't know how good the sound would be locating the speakers there, but at least they are out of the way and are not behind the bench seat.
Good luck
that is a good location if you don't mind cutting your cab. there is around 6 inches between the walls if you would like a pic of the spacing there let me know. i just cut my roof so now thatis a big hole.
hi
i have two 15" kickers and a 1200watt profile amp in my truck. i built a box to fit the whole back of the cab. fortunatly i have two kicker D-20 6x9s there too. i also used dyna-mat in the whole cab so it doesn't rattle. i would recommend building a box that can accomidate your 'system'.
I have my 6x9s mounted in the exact location that "idahocrewcab" described. They are right at my shoulder, mounted vertical. I cut holes with a jigsaw and ran the wires in the headliner where the dome light wires run. The placement is very tricky, with the door open you can see that there is one spot (about the top of the seat) that has a little more room side to side. That's where mine had to go, if it was lower or higher it would not fit (or so it appeared to me). My interior is black and so are the speakers, so you don't even know they are there.
They've been there for over 3 years and I'm very happy with the placement. I can hear it very clearly (even with the roar of my 390...)and it doesn't have to be turned up near as loud as when they were behind the seat.
Once you get past the idea of cutting huge holes in the cab it's easy.
In my crewcab I just put the 6x9's behind the rear seat, and just put them on the floor, the magnets hold them in place so they don't move, and they sound great there.
