ok, i have an 89 BII 4x4 with a really bad stopping problem. i can push the pedal down and it doesnt hit the floor, it just stops about halfway to the floor, but i cant stop. i have tried to fix this myself by...
1. bleeding all the brakes <!--emo&<_<--><!--endemo-->
2. bleeding the master cylinder/ brakes <!--emo&;angry;--><!--endemo-->
3. replacing the mastercylinder/ bleeding everything again <!--emo&;banghead;--><!--endemo-->
4. rebuilding the rear brakes (didnt know what else to do.) <!--emo&;realmad;--><!--endemo-->
now that i have gone through all of that, i have the same exact problem, but the pedal seems a little bit stiffer (it's always a little bit spongy, but i think age has a part to do with that).
Could it be the brake booster? and if it is, i know that the booster is controlled by vaccum, but i realy dont know where to begin.
please help me!
sounds like a booster. when the pedal is stiff like that it is normaly a booster, or at least it has been in my experience. there is a way to check the vaccum I beleave but not sure how. Im sure some here can help you with that but if you have already done all that work I think I would just replace the booster im sure it will solve your problem. GL

Here's how I'd check the booster. Find a nice stretch of country road or a mall parking lot early on a sunday morning. Pull the hose to the booster and cap it so the engine doesn't have a vacuum leak. Then do a little test drive. If there is lottle or no change then it is probably the booster. Good luck
or pump the brake pedal hard a few times with the engine off,letting the pedal release completely b4 hitting it again, and then hold your foot on the pedal and start the engine. if the booster is workin like it should the brake pedal should move under your foot. thats the vacuum assist kickin in when the engine is started and supplying vacuum. pushin the pedal down with the engine off releases the vacuum held in the booster so u can c if theres a difference.
