on my way home from work yesterday i heard a clanking noise coming from my l/f tire. when i got home i had noticed that all of my lug nuts were loose. so i went to tighten them and all 5 of them wouldnt tighten. the studs were spinnig as soon as i applied torque to tighten the lug nut. i got 2 tightened down but the other three still spun. i took the wheel off and found that all the studs were spinning where they meet the disc or whatever it is that they mount to. i tried putting in some studs i had from an old drum assy and they spun too. its driving me crazy does anyone know what could cause this??? i am going to the parts store tomorow to buy new studs. hopefully they will fight tight and not spiin. i really cant afford new drum assys at 75 bucks a pop. any ideas ?????????

I had something similar once a long time ago in my 280ZX but it was only two on one wheel. I traced it back to having new tires put on. I think that it could have been caused by the mechanic using an impact gun to tighten the lugs. He could have over torqued it. I figured it out because I had to use a breaker bar to remove the lugs and broke one off because it was so tight.
Another thought would be that they lugs were slightly loose and vibrated until they became loose
well i was able to get some new studs (just 2 of them for now), tomorow i am going to try puting them in. hope they will hold so i dont have to locate a new hub assy. if anyone knows where i can find one let me know, i am having trouble. it is a 75 f-100 4x4 with drum brakes at all four corners.

got the two new studs in today and figuered out the problem. i guess that with my l f wheel cylender leaking a little bit and my axle seals leaking, that over time the oil soaked into the metal an caused the stids to loosen. sounds weird but that was my diagnosis on it and its the only thing i can think of. befor i put the studs in i spayed it with brake parts cleaner and alll the other seated and all but one held. the one that didnt was one that was stripped out anyways.
