Starter Question

Okay here is the low down. Came home last night, parked the truck for the evening but when I tried to start my truck this morning but it wouldn't turn over. It had been starting fine since I bought it. Just the clicking from the relay and starter solenoid. So after work, I started to troubleshoot the situation. Search high and low on the site for someone with the same problem. Checked the voltage of the batteries, cleaned the terminals etc etc. After swapping in my spare relay, still didn't fix the problem. I jumped the terminals to try and get the starter motor to turn, NOTHING!! So I have pulled the starter and am getting it tested tommorow.
Would a starter just die like that overnight? Or is it the solenoid that is pooched? Just want to get an educated guess before I get word from the shop.
Cause its gonna suck if I have to buy a new starter

Here's what I've noticed over the last 10 years (even longer, I refuse to believe I'm getting that old!), batteries go kaput over night. I know that these have 2 batteries, so that kinda throws a wrench into it. I'd suspect you have one or two batteries bad. A good way to check them is to disconnect one battery, check the voltage on the battery hooked up, then turn on the lights and other stuff to draw a current and check the voltage drop. Disconnect that battery and connect the other battery and do the same thing. If you see that one is weaker, then that's your problem. After reading several posts on batteries, I'd replace them both.

Well got my starter back from the repair shop, wow I thought it was a brand new one. Turns out the brushes were worn.
