Adding new Transmission fluid

Is there a trick to adding new trans fluid to a rebuilt empty auto tranny? Do i add it while the truck is running/in drive or reverse etc?

Add 7 quarts before starting the engine. Run the engine for 1 minutes and add more. How much more depends on how much more than 7 quarts it holds. While the engine is running the second time move the shifter to every position to get fluid in all of the passages. Use the dipstick to set the final level.
