I love the 390 but I'm building a 400. With the right parts you will get a motor that will get better mileage, over 300hp and 450ftlbs in the low rpm range. You will need some badger pistons, comp cams 255deh cam (or others), performer intake from ebay for under $100 and a 600carb. Also roller timing etc. Look over the 335 series forum as there is a great build info. If you stick with dished pistons etc you will get icky performance and guzzel the petrol.

I still love the fe.

See I already have a 400 thats been bored 30 over.Cranks been turned.I've got a edelbrock performer intake,650 holley, cloyes roller chain.I've got to get a set of heads done.An a few other odds an ends. When it comes to getting all the stuff done to the heads an picking a cam I'm pretty much lost. The bottom end I can do no problem.I looked up the engine towers for the 390 on the locater at work, not one set found in the U.S. So I'm gonna go with the 400.I'll post a question,in the 335 series an see what I should do to the Top end.O I forgot I have pistons an rings for it to,But stock style 30 over.Bad choice huh.

Make sure you get the flat top pistons...it is the most important ingredient unless you go with aussie heads that also increase commpression a bunch. There is a TON of info on the 335 forum that will make part selection a breeze for the 400. I'm so far behind on my build we may end up doing them together.

Bhawkin,

You don't need FE towers, towers for a 300 L6 will work fine. That's what Ford originally used. I'm sure it wouldn't be hard to find a set of these towers. 300 powered trucks were very popular.
