I see that Ford has finally gotten around to recall the bad speed control deactivation switches and came up with a fix, but they forgot about us Excursion owners. What's with that?
I know there are a number of folks here who have had the same problem with their X's, I know I have. Does anyone know if they are going to include Excursions?
As far as I know and I could be wrong but none of the SuperDuty line were included in the recall. Apparently we use a different relay in the cruise control settings that does not cause the overheating and underhood fires.
I know that we have had several mysterious truck fires in our district that involved F-150's. The guys at my station just figured it was insurance fraud but I guess we were wrong...
I had a 2000 V10 4X4 EX The cruise control went out at about 75,000 miles. I went through the troubleshooting guide till I found it was the pressure switch on the master cylinder. When I went to the dealer I was surprised to find the replacement was $15.00. That was the upgraded switch too the same one being used in the recall. It took about 20 minutes to replace. Ford has not recalled the superduty trucks that I'm aware of yet...

The voluntary recall effects only 94-02 F150s,97-02 Expeditions,98-02 Navigators,94-96 Broncos with factory installed speed control.
The SuperDuty/Excursions use a whole different speed control system

Thanks for the responses so far, and I did know our trucks have a slightly different system. However, I know a few here had a similar experience as i did. My switch went bad in spectacular fashion, fortunately I had just pulled up to my house when it happened. I was able to put the fire out right away and it only effected the switch, and wiring harness. The fix was very easy, but my switch caught fire when it went.

The recall does not involve a replacement switch. The switch is (electrically) live all the time. Replacing the switch doesn't change that.
The recall involves putting a fusable link in the power wire to the switch. That way, if the switch shorts, it blows the link rather than heats up.
Ford said Wednesday that its internal investigation found that brake fluid could leak into the cruise-control switch, corroding its components and leading to overheating.
The company plans to install a special wiring harness to act as a circuit breaker on the electrical current in the system.
