02 explorer transfer problems?
I am experiencing problems with my explorer. Ever since I bought the thing 2 years ago it has had like a dragging sensation to it after I apply the brakes. Either at a stop lite or stop sign. It seemed like it was a brake issue. I had the rear rotors and pads changed at the local ford dealership. They seemed to think that was the problem. Well it was not. It still does it. The other issue is that the problem seems to come and go. It is worse on hot days or long trips. It does not seem to be as bad in the winter. I allways thought it was the brakes because it would only do it after braking and turning. Now the dealership seems to think it is the transfer case. It has the auto 4x4 button, and it appears something is wrong with that or the transfer case. Today it was about 80 deg outside, I used the explorer for a 150 mile road trip. When I got close to my destination, hitting street lites and stop signs it was almost unbearable. The whole suv would shake and grab until you got going at a good speed, approx 20 mph or better. However, from 0 to 20 it was hell. Any ideas? I do not want to spend a lot of money on a hunch again. Thanks
