Ford apparently has issued a new, fused inline wiring harness to be plugged between the cruise control switch and the existing wiring harness and does not include a new switch.

I think it SUCKS if they are just wiring in a fusible link, when the switch is what's really going bad. Granted, it's an engineering fubar that the power is on all the time, but so what? What's the difference if the truck goes on fire when it's running compared to parked? Not much, except it doesn't take your HOUSE with it...
I recall someone here with a brand-new truck that the thing was already leaking... but I can't remember who.
I unplugged the one in my '01 Superduty - better safe than sorry.
Unbelievable ...

Thanks for confirming guys. If they don't refund my money, I'll just be sure to pick up the new harness anyway. Then I'll throw it in the trash...
I wonder which style the original vehicles that got the recall (2000 MY) will recieve now? Which is safer? Does the kit I bought include a fuseable link in the harness?
Heres an article that talks about fingerpointing between Ford and TI on the matter.http://www.click2houston.com/news/4229871/detail.html
Smaug:
Are you sure you have the new switch now? The reason I ask is that the first recall wasn't done until the beginning of this year (right?). Also when I bought the repair kit, it wasn't $35, it was about half that. If it's red, it's the old, the new one looks quite different.

IMO, TI is to blame for the defective switches. According to them the switches are only rated 1 amp, not nearly heavy duty enough to handle the load. I wonder what amperage the fusable link is that Ford is going to use. If its any higher than the amperage of the switch, then its not going to do much good. Well, I'm going to replace the switches(with the new design,of course) on our vehicals regardless of what Ford or TI does about the situation. It's not so much if the trucks burn up, I dont want my house & garage to burn!

Just came back from the dealer, first I'll mention I picked up a fuel filter and made small talk with the parts guy about his huge recall, he told me to take my truck to service to see if my truck was part of the recall, punched up the serial # and yup, there on the computer screen was a note regarding the fix (BTW my truck is an 02), he then asked if I wanted it fixed right now, well of course I took the offer and watched the tech install the harness, five minutes later and I was on my way home. I suggest if you have the time tomorrow, stop by your local dealership and ask for the fix before the rush comes.

Cruise Recall on my '01 4X4
Went into the local Ford dealer with our truck for a once over plus oil change prior to driving to Fl. from Az. next week. All was well. While there, I talked to the service manager about the newest recall on the cruise. My switch was not leaking at all. Mine had never been recalled in the first set but was on the "list" of the newest one I read about here. Service manager was at a bit of a loss about the newer year listing but did some quick research and by the time the oil was changed, they came to me and asked if I had time for them to do the recall. I asked what it involved and agreed to let them cover it. They replaced the "brake switch" with a new one and added a pigtail harness with a fuse in it. All of five min. Good to have a dealer that works with someone.

Here's the message I got off a website.
"Ford Recalls 4 Million Trucks to Fix Fire Risk
September 7, 2005
After years of turning a deaf ear to reports of fires in unattended F-150s and other trucks and SUVs, Ford Motor Co. is finally recalling nearly 4 million of the vehicles to replace a faulty speed control deactivation switch that may cause underhood fires.
The estimated 3.8 million Ford vehicles affected by the recall are from the 1994-2002 model years and include the Ford F-150 pickup as well as the Ford Expedition, Lincoln Navigator and Ford Bronco SUVs.
It's the fourth largest recall in Ford's history.
The brake fluid in the recalled vehicles may leak through the speed control deactivation switch into the speed control system electrical components, potentially corroding them and leading to fires, the company said.
Ford said it will install a fused wiring harness between the switch and the speed control mechanism of the affected vehicles to act as a circuit breaker.
In January, Ford recalled about 792,000 pickup trucks and SUVs for a similar problem involving the speed control switch. That recall included 2000 model-year F-150 pickup trucks, Expedition and Navigator SUVs and 2001 model-year F-Series Supercrew pickup trucks equipped with cruise control.
The government began the defect investigation in March involving F-150 pickups from the 1995 to 1999 and 2001 to 2002 model years and Ford Expeditions and Lincoln Navigators from the 1997 to 1999 and 2001 to 2002 model years.
NHTSA has received more than 550 complaints of engine fires from the cruise control switch in the Ford models."

maybe more
"NHTSA has received more than 550 complaints of engine fires from the cruise control switch in the Ford models."
This is not including, mercury, mazda, lincoln, or any other companies owned by Ford. There could be as many as 1000 MORE including the other manufacturers...They should have fixed this problem long ago. I've got a 94, and I haven't had any problems with it, but i'm gonna have the fusible wiring harness put in anyways just in case.
