I'm at the end of my third set of BF Goodrich All Terrain's - stock size. I regularly drive rough gravel roads (2 miles one way back in the woods to my place everyday) plus to job sites, hauling about 2400 lbs in the back some of the time. I'm getting roughly 32,000 miles a set.
I've had good luck with the BFG's - hardly ever a flat. And they'r not too noisy on pavement and have decent traction. (I put some on the wife's Honda CRV - man talk about loud!! Like riding on rumble strips!! Then I realized how far apart the tires on my truck are from the cab.. LOL)
I just put a set of dunlop radial rover rvxt's on my truck. Good in the snow and on wet roads, but if you drive in gravel at all dont even consiter them. Mine are always packed full of rocks. Other than that they are nice tires.
Bridgestone Dueller Revos are running well on my truck. They have a free replacement warranty for 36,000 miles and pro-rated warranty for 50,000 miles. I have 35,000 on my set and they do very well off road. Wet traction is excellent, you can't even tell that it's raining. They are E rated, so you should be good with your payload that you haul around. I bought my set at Costco.
I've had a 3/4T or 1T truck for the last 21 yrs and I've tried several tires. So far the BFG A/T has been the best all around tire for me. They do great in the snow, and okay on ice, but the sidewalls and the tread toughness is hard to beat. I hate flats, and I have yet to get one with the BFGs ( knock on wood ). They even wore decent on an F250 I had with the TTB front end. There might be a better tire out there, but for my use, driving habits and conditions, the BFG is the only tire for me. By the way, I'm currently running a 305/70/16 on the stock rims, and while I like the way they look, the 295s I had before these wore better. The stock rims are too narrow for a 12.5" tire.
There are so many tires out there now it can be a daunting task to find the right tire for your needs and wants.
I have had great luck with Tire Rack over the internet. Their folks really know their stuff when it comes to tires/brakes/suspension parts etc. Check their website and read the reviews for the particular size tire that you are considering.
I like the BFG's as well. IMO the BFG mudder is about the best all terrain tire you can get. I like the AT's too, they wear better than the mudders an dwork great in everything except mud.
