E-brake ??

Ok...since I was putting on a new power steering pump the other day, I had to roll the truck back from the curb so I could "work" the wheels and get the air out of the system. Perfect.............but, after I let truck roll back a foot, I pushed on e-brake and it fell to floor . The front cable snapped back near equalizer bar.

NO ONE offers the front cable for a '67 UP to '66 and '70-up.
What the heck is that?? Why is the '67-69 an oddball? I thought the '67-72 would be near all the same for something like this. I'm going to pull the pieces and do some measuring. I have the lengths for '70 cable. Hopefully it will work.

Anyone else come across this??

From what I have been told...."Those cables changed length almost every month." That was from the guy at the Ford Truck salvage place.

However, I was told the same thing about my power steering components and found that all the hoses/pumps, etc. from 72-75 seem to fit perfect.

I have found listings and prices for all three cables through NAPA, although, I have not tried to order one yet.....maybe they are the only ones producing them?

I went thru buddy at local Napa store. They don't list one from ANY supplier. They list the 70-72 but it would cost me part/shipping to get it to see if it would work. I have the length so I am going to pull mine and see what it was. It's so stupid that they would change the length on something like this. Should be the same for all long bed or short bed '67-72 truck. I'll check this week sometime.

FWIW: The exact length does not matter too much as long as it is not too short. You could get a universal cable and use that or even go to The Home Depot, buy a length of air craft cable and swag an end unto it. They sell swaggers for up to 3/16 line.

Ya, I was figuring on pulling the pieces, measure them up and if all else fails, make a new core up. Even if I had to clip the ends, and clamp a new center piece in. There is room(that is a good thing). All is not lost yet.....just need some time to tinker with.

Measure the length needed and type of swage on the ends then go to a marine supply. Use 7 x 19 stranded aircraft stainless steel and swage the ends in house. been there done that. I found it better to have two springs for cable return, I cut a perfect drum because one side didn't release.

hey there i hope that there not gonna charge you too much for the cable i wouldn't think it would be too expensive. If so i might be able to get you a deal i am an aircraft mechanic. I've run yards of yards of cable through jets not a fun experience....Good luck

Didn't think about the marine joint. Might be a chance there? It'll be this weekend before I get it out, since it' suppose to be wet for a couple days now. I'm lucky it's broke out the back side where there is room to repair and it still work. If that fails, then I'll look into getting cable replaced.

Thanks for the ideas guys

oldbad69, how long have you had your license and you have both? I've A&P since 1-74. A sure upgrade with ss cable vs Fords cable.

I just remembered, I bought a cable from MACS. I have not installed it yet, but, it looks correct and it was 1/2 the cost of Advance Auto. It has a exterior plastic case instead of the flex metal tube that is currently there.
