Pulled a PS column from a 75 F100 and need to replace the lower support bushing (plastic). This part installs in the bottom of the column and supports the steering shaft. I remember reading a while back that someone used a sealed roller bearing with a 3/4 inch center and an outside diameter that just squeezed into the column. This seems like a permanent soultion. Does anyone here have information on this? Does anyone here know where I can but a new plastic support bushing? Thanks!
This guy I know makes a metal lower column bearing that is super nice for the money ($30). I like mine so far. I'll shoot you this guy's Email address on a PM.
i made mine out of brass. i used a lathe and a mill . i made these and sold these at swap meets for 25.00 before i lost the use of the lathe. i even cut a groove in the middle of a few drilled a hole tapped it and added a zerk fitting. and then installed it in the tube drilled a hole in the collumn for the zerk then screwed in the zerk.
GeneStoner and ford390gashog! The computer ate the e-mail address! I guess it does that for my own safety? And the brass and grease fitting would be the permanent solution. I do not have acces to a lathe so I am still looking for a resolution to this issue. Thanks Guy's. I remember someone was using a sealed roller bearing that was about 1/2 inche wide, had a 3/4 inch center and an outside diameter that just squeezed into the bottom of the column. Anybody have one of 390gashog's supports laying around?
