I currently drive a 97 F-250HD 460ci 5spd 4x4 and am looking to jump up a few years. I love the power of my current truck but hate the gas bill!! (8mpg)
I would love to get a power stroke, but cant afford the purchase price. I am looking at the 99-2003 years. So i narrow it down to either the 5.4L V8 or the 6.8L V10. Has anyone with a 460 gone to either of these motors, and how do you find the mpg's and the power compared to the 460. Also, how are the auto's versus the 5spd's in these trucks? Both good?
Thanks very much for the help guys!
I know i can always count on you
I had a 97 with a 460. I now have the V10. You'll like it. More power, better fuel milage much smoother running. You'll have to get used to the sound though, nothing like a big block V8. I would get a 2001 or later to avoid problems with the heads, plus you'll get the 310 HP as opposed to the earlier 275 HP versions. Good luck, they're kinda hard to find but there ought to be some out there for give away prices now.
same here. 460 to psd to to a "ach dodge" to a 05 v10. what made me so dumb to buy a dodge? you will love the newer one . just go 01 or newer as said above more hp and a better head design.
for a gas motor this rig never knows when it's towing and mpgs are not that bad.
the 460 im fermiliar with was like a 92 but the 5.4 is a dog in a truck this size and i wouldnt own one if ya plain on towing a trailer (freind had the 5.4, i borrowd it, hated it, and bought a new PSD).
