Conversion help.

Hi. Can someone tell me who made the conversion for my van? Also this is a Clubwagon right?

A pic of my van is in my gallery.

Thanks

1. It's not a Club Wagon. It's a standard E-150.

2. It's impossible to determine the converter from the pic you have there.

Did you look on the driver's doorpost? Sometimes the name is on the step as you step into the side doors. Does it have the RVIA sticker on it with the manufacture's number on it? It would be located low on the back somewhere.

Not sure what you need but I can tell you that 99% of converters in 1988 are no longer around, have been bought out, or changed names. I live within 10 miles of over 75 converters and it's amazing to see how fast they come and go.

Thanks goofy173. I looked inside the drivers door but the sticker is hard to read. I'll check the side doors and look for the RVIA sticker. I was thinking by the stripes it can be determined who did the conversion. I got the van not too long ago so I don't know too much about it yet.

Thanks

Usually the converters don't do the paint scheme. They send them out to paint shops. I've seen several that look almost exactly like my '89 conversion but they weren't the same converter.

The stripes on my van are decals. The paint is likely OE Ford "maroon" from the factory.

"Clubwagons" are passenger vans with factory windows and rear seats. The factory windows match the body lines of the door windows.

"Econolines" are window-less cargo vans and the conversion company installs the rear windows and interior.

Oddly enough, while a standard Econoline is a "truck", my Econoline conversion is registered as a "station wagon". This helps me with registration costs as trucks cost a few $ more than cars in PA.

In Indiana they can be licensed as cars. Some people license them as trucks because they have the false belief that it exempts them from the seatbelt law, but it doesn't. I wish I could have all that extra money people are paying here to put truck plates on their vans and SUV's.

It's a grey area in indiana. YOu can run either tag, but they prefer you run the truck tag. We had problems both in ohio and indiana with car tags on an E150.

Thanks for the information on the conversion etc. Like I said I'm new to Vans. My van has car plates, in Wisconsin. Truck plates are like $10 more I think.

Hmm. I know we're getting off subject but I've never even been asked how I want to register my vans. They always give me car plates at the BMV.

I think I remember in the late 70's that you had to plate it as a truck for the first year, and then could switch to car plates after that, if it truly was not a cargo van.

i asked you a week ago for help with my 2000 ford econoline van. the locks kept popping up at all times. well, i took it to the ford dealer and whatever they did, now the locks don't pop up and the alarm works but the locks won't lock or unlock with the remote. The alarm place told me to get a new switch for the locks, but do you know where to get it? Please let me know, I hate to go to the dealer, they charge sooo much.

thanks

Sounds like they disconnected the remote lock module so a new remote may not work. If the Ford dealer charged you it should say on the receipt what they did. If not call the service manager and ask him what they did.

I'm not real familiar with Ford's remote lock system. I think there's some special procedure to make the new remote work with the old system but I don't know what it is.

For $50 I got a Bulldog system from Ebay and then for $20 I got the harness for my van and after plugging it all in and connecting the ground, I had remote start. Total time 20 mins. Then I connected the remote lock/unlock wires at the driver's door switch and then the remote door locks worked. Total time around an hour as I took the whole door panel off. I wanted to find the wires under the dash but it was too tight to find them.

Lots of options but the factory one will be the most expensive.
