I painted my 73 myself and think I did a better job than maaco ever could......
If you Do take something to maaco, I recomend doing prep work yourself and JUST having them shoot..... even do the masking yourself and trailer the vehicle there if your that set on maaco
Maaco is a good example for people who want to go into the Painting business. Once you get a reputation for cheap cut rate work and it doesn't hold up, No matter what quality of work you do later, you can never regain your reputation. I go to a lot of car and truck shows and one question I never hear is "who did the prep work" The question you always hear is "Who Painted it.

Thats all well and good, but I dont think the original question was related to something that would be going to a "car show"
Read between the lines dude, the car show was just an example. The same questions are asked at drive in or wherever car and truck people get together. I believe the original question was about QUALITY? You said you painted your own truck, doesn't it make you proud when someone asks you who painted it and you say " I did"
Sure Im proud, and Im by no means advocating that he take it to maaco, he just asked for a synopsis of maacos quality, and peoples opinions on such, so I gave him one
It seems like there are a lot posts that are negative about Maaco. Most of them are probably correct. This is what we did and the results were outstanding. First, we got in contact with the sales rep or supplier for Maaco (there are several for each area) He gave us information on which paint place had the best and most experienced painters. We did all the prep work, sanding etc. We even masked the car prior to shooting the paint at Maaco. They even allowed us to bring out own paint which was PPG paint. The guy who painted our car has been painting for over 10 years. He shot the paint as usual, helped us unmask everything, and the paint looked like we paid $5,000 for the paint. Total cost for them to shoot the car was $375 plus a case of Budweiser to the painter. You gotta know who and where to go and do the prep work yourself. It the old rule of "You paint job is only as good as your prep work"
