I have a 2000 350 CC SRW PSD 4x4. When I last changed the fuel filter the element was about black. Is this right?
This is my 3rd PSD in a row and I didnt remember the color being so dark at the time of change. I know that the filter should change as it picks up contaminants, but is it normal to be this dark? Bad fuel or maybe a fungus. I get about 14-15 MPG on the highway.
I Change My Fuel Filter About Every 10,ooo Miles. Mine Is Usually Pretty Dark. I Think This Is Normal. However I Don't Think 14-15 Mpg Is Too Good Unless You Always Drive Over 69 Mph And Over 2000 Rpm. If You Will Keep Your Speed Between 65-68 Mph And Take It Easy You Should See An Improvement In You Fuel Milage. I Get 16.6- 16.9 Mpg This Way. Good Luck.
Yes black at 10,000 or 15,000 seems to be normal, there are bacteria in fuel, and alot of var that may make your filter turn black sooner. One how fast do you use the fuel that you fill up with, and how long is the fuel in the ground tank at a filling station that you usualy use, best use a busy truck stop. I have noticed when i stay home and use a local truck stop around the house I have a dark brown some times even black, i change my filter about every oil change, 3,000, over kill but oh well, we will see if it will pay off, 115,000 and no major engine prob, knock on wood. Now when I am on the road and use truck stops that are off of major highways my filter seems not to turn as dark as fast. I use diesel Kleen also with the fuel now a-days seems that they may refine it a little too much, may need that added lube.
