I am in the process of rebuilding my 79. it had a 351M C6 etc.
I am putting a 460 from a 71 Lincoln in it. i have rebuilt everything.
And i mean EVERYTHING!! Frame off, all new 4" lift (not body)
brakes, tires, wheels, interior, drivetrain, you nameit I did it!!
My problem at hand is the right exhaust manifold. It hits the frame.
Do I, 1. cut the frame out, Or 2. get a manifold that hugs the engine a little closer. If so from what? I don't want to get headers for $400.00 if at all possible. I know somebody out there has done this before, all I need is info.
Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks, Pat
In my experience, 460 truck exhaust manifolds are nasty produsts. Hard to find, expensive and usually broken when you find them. They can cost as much as a great set of headers. I went with L&L and they are awesome. They fit, look great, and added some performance. Good luck.
I second Bubba's suggestion. Get headers! They'll cost a few bucks but they'll take care of the clearance issues you're having AND they'll increase performance. I've read several articles that showed headers vs manifolds were worth about 30 horse increase in power. If you're going through the trouble to put a 460 in you may as well take advantage of the benefits.
