If the seal or bearing is bad in the tailshaft I think that would be a result of the problem and not the cause but maybe some tranny guys might know otherwise. Was the 2 part driveshaft separated recently? If so it has to be put back exactly the way it was or it will be out of phase and you will get vibration. Usually a paint mark is put on both shafts so you can line them both back up again.
Yes...I ( just yesterday ) took the drive shaft apart and replaced the carrier bearing...and like a dumb A$* didn't even check the alingment. I will say that there is no new vibration ( or lack thereof ) after installing it. I will check tomorrow...otherwise I am screwed I suppose and will need to have it balanced?
Is it possible, that the rear brakes are dragging a little...and when they get warm start to drag and chatter??? Tonight I drove the truck again...and just like every other time, when cold it is fine...after a couple miles the shimmy starts...then the vibration and noise....tonight I pegged the brakes hard a couple times...slowed down and sped back up....and it was gone. I drove the truck another 35 miles and it did not return..... ??????????
How much play should there be? For instance, with the rear up off of the ground....how much should the rear tires turn before the drive shaft turns? There is a small amount of play here...
sounds like a stuck rear brake. A couple of threads about e-brakes being stuck on this site, you probably can find one. Yours was a mild case from what I've read. Some guys said their wipers were shaking off their windshield.
