Looking at buying a 92

My search for a new vehicle may have ended. Its a 92 XLT, AT, Ext. Cab, LB with a 5.8.
The good:
-Body is near mint except for a few touch-ups where a topper must have been on.
-The interior is very clean
-The motor is clean.
-Brand new BFG A/Ts
The bad:
-The power steering leaks a little.
-The transfer case is starting to develop a tiny leak (not dripping yet)
-Drivers side door lock actuator is bad.
The only thing I am really worried about if I were to get this truck would be the gas mileage. How much would I be expecting highway and city? I drive about 8 hw miles to school and around that many to school from work then. They are asking $4k for it and I don't know the mileage off hand. How does this sound?

You are considering buying a truck that may get 8 to 12 MPG?
Very optimistic I must add.
Will you positively need that truck to get thru each day? If so, then I highly recommend it, I hope it has an E4OD tranny.

I own a 92 4x2 it is the best vehicle I ever owned, I think the style of the 92's (and similar years) is the best-looking truck Ford ever made also, the styling is almost timeless, well-kept trucks look just as good as anything being sold as new on a Ford lot these days.
Carefully inspect the paint above the rear wheel wheels, look for rust starting to blister around the trim work. That will be the first place rust pops out.
If the truck was well maintained and the owner has proof of that maintenace then, buy it. Most trucks of that era were very well built, the only sore spot with many drivers is the electrical system, poor charging circuits, gauge problems, power locks/windows all die before the truck will.

is it a 4x4? otherwise $4k sounds like a lot for a 92.

what about underneath the truck?

it is a midwest truck i assume from where you are located.

check rusty shackles, rusty oil pan, rusty brake lines, rusty frame etc.

how does trans. shift? how is fluid?

brakes, u joints check all the normal wear items.
