will this work?
http://www.proficientperformance.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=CTGY&Store_Code=PP&Category_Co de=v_ford_mustang_3-8_supercharger_kits
if link don't work (by the looks of my investigation, the link takes you to motorhaven.com, a completely unrelated site to this post, so you'll need to type in proficientperformance.com) go to www.proficientperformance.com then go to the category search drop down menu on the left underneath Shop Now, hit superchargers (first choice), scroll down and click on Vortech superchargers in the main web page frame, finally scroll to Ford kits and click on Mustang with 3.8 V6...
is it possible that the piping could be modified to work with the 4.2 since they are both from the V6 family, and feature similiar specs? By the looks of picture on Vortech's supercharger list, the alternator for the 3.8 is on the opposite side of the engine then the 4.2 (maybe this is because of the relocation that may be needed to fit the supercharger, or its the OE placement, I don't know...)
any input would be greatly appreciated.
The 3.8 Engine is basically the same, the alternator gets relocated when the supercharger is installed.
There was a kit out for a while that was based on a Mustang kit but that company didn't last long and only a few kits were installed.
The person I talked to that had installed the kit loved it and easily beat 5.4L trucks at the track. If he stayed out of the throttle he was even getting almost 20 mpg as well.
Basically, I think it will work as long as you are able to fabricate any lines and/or brackets that may not be the same and I believe you'll have to tune it differently.
just found this:
