I finally found the "massive" leak. It just happens to be in the metal lines right at the PS fliud cooler. It is just alittle pinhole, but is very steady (duh). So I tried some rubber tape over it thinking that "Hey it works for vacuum leaks....why not here?" Well, my great idea was a waste of time. So are there any other things that I could try short of hitting a boneyard? I thought maybe it could be welded as it's just a little spot, but I didn't know if I should try it or if something bad would happen as a result Thanks (oh yea....it's a 69 F-250 390 2wd)
Not exactly sure what you mean, but it is just mounted (er....well was) on a bracket right above the PS pump and was bent up into a U shape and has cooling fins on it. At one point it broke off of the said bracket and someone just wired it down, and that worked until it got a hole rubbed into it. I'm honestly not sure if it's factory or not.
That's the stock cooler. You can bypass it for now until you can find another one. You probably won't miss it unless you're doing a lot of towing or heavy hauling. You might be able to find a replacement in the junkyard or on Ebay.
OK, thanks fasttexan. May just do that because this pickup gets used maybe once or twice in the summer and that is all. I'd really like to resore it, but I'm 16, dad doesn't like a mess in the shop, and gas is insanely high to be driving something that gets less than 10 mpg.
