Has any body heard of warrenty covering a rusty oil pan?? I have 2001 f350 7.3ltr and the oil pan is rusty, it'll be just a matter of time before it will start to leak! I bought the power train warrenty and it does mention the oil pan on it.I havn't talked to ford about it but they will probably put up a fuss i would amagine.
repaint it yourself with rust bullet from our advertiser in the top section. the stuff works great as i've tried it on my dd 8v71tia marine engine's pan
ya but if you don't get out all the rust the odds of the rust coming back is pretty good
maybe ford can replace the oil pan under warrenty then i will paint it with the stuff you mentioned (wishfull thinking but i am going to try) "Squeeky wheel gets the grease"
Rust bullet is 25 bucks a qt..clean as best as you can get all the scale off as it will fail with entraped air underneath degrease and two coats. I'm working from the front of my truck to the rear with a needle scaler and applying RB. A needle scaler is second to sand blasting. RB is the best primer or topcoat made. I'm working on my 3rd gallon. Nothing else comes close as far as reg paint.
the stuff is great man. i mean i used it on a salt water marine detroit diesel engine. all i did was wire brush the pan and engine, cleaned it off with thinners and painted it with 2 coats of rb, then a few coats of dd blue.
As to warrenty on a new pan cause its rusty . please don't get your hopes up. less greef just rbing it.
Has any body heard of warranty covering a rusty oil pan?? I have 2001 f350 7.3ltr and the oil pan is rusty, it'll be just a matter of time before it will start to leak! I bought the power train warranty and it does mention the oil pan on it.I haven't talked to ford about it but they will probably put up a fuss i would imagine.
The official word from Ford/Navistar is that rust is an environmental problem and therefore rust is not considered an warranty-able failure. You could always ask your dealer but I doubt you will get it replaced under warranty but the better your relationship with your dealer the better your chances of some help. I know some dealers have done this but only with special permission or they eventually had to eat the repair when the claim was denied.
You can repaint the pan using the epoxy paint that ford sells specifically for these oil pans or any good product mentioned here. The key is, guys, to catch the rust early when it's just surface rust. If it gets deep it's too late! I had one customer poke a hole through the pan while trying to clean it up for paining!
