PCS? whats wrong with me?

Hey guys,
What to know what you guys think,
I wiped my dirt bike out just over a month ago, rung my head pretty good. Gave myself a concussion. About a week or two after i seemed fine, back to normal. Now, for about a week Ive found my jaw is really sore, like i need to clench on something and on both sides of my head right behind the ears area i get a brief sharp pain and feels tense. Also been real moody at work and stuff. One minute im not happy, depressed kinda, next minute im happy.
I dont like it. I think ill go see a doc this week.

Tell you what I think; the last sentence of your thread says it all.

Go see a doctor.

Let us know what they said.

Good luck.

Concussions are very serious, you could be moody, irritable, or confused for months and months. You injured your brain, think about it...oh sorry, nevermind you can't.

I would make sure you check in with a doctor if you are feeling anything is wrong. You should stay off the bike and take it easy, try to get lots of rest and eat well.
You are probably sleeping alot already, that is another sign of a concussion.

You are about to die from a subdural hematoma.

Get to Doc sooner rather than later, insist on an MRI of your head to rule this out.

Meanwhile, go buy a new helmet, throw the old one away or hang it on the wall, and wear the new helmet all the time till you are cleared.

NO. A helmet is basically a one time crash gear when damage is visible, even a scrape.

It may have internal damage in the foam.

Throw the frigen thing in the garbage.

It's no good.

Tylenol only hides the problem.

If not the above, put me as your benificiary; only if you've got a ot of money and real estate.

If you are intent of keeping the helmet, show the helmet to a bicycle shop or the dcotor for an opinion.

DOT and SNELL Helmets are made for one crash..the outer shell flexes and develops microscopic fractures and the structural integrity is weakened.
Some people recommend a helmet should be trashed even if it is dropped from a couple feet down to the roadway. However, It is hard to trash a 300.00 dollar helmet.
Always secure the helmet to the bike if the helmet is not being used, if the helmet falls off the seat or bars, that will reduce its protection.
I personally leave my DOT helmets laying on the ground, when not being used.

RE the Helmet: Yes, once it's hit that hard, it's done. The outer shell can have cracks as described. The inner "padding", which is styrofoam, compresses. They are good for one hit.

Bell used to rebuild helmets with new styro and liners, but I don't think anyone does that anymore.

No one can overstate the seriousness of your condition at this time from this distance.

Good luck.

I dont like it. I think ill go see a doc this week.

The pain you are experiencing is called 'Braincramps'. It is caused by NOT going to the doctor, and trying to be a Macho, Macho Man.

Get to the doctor! Not sometime this week. Do it, today!!!!!

I agree, with the others, if you value yer melon go see the doctor asap.

On another note, were you wearing a helmet when you got the concussion?

I did not know it was possible to get a concussion when wearing a helmet because of all the cushioning?

It's definitely possible to get a concussion while wearing a helmet. My dad flipped his four wheeler and was knocked out cold with his helmet on (and have seen others go through this as well at the dunes).

I was in Mexico riding without a helmet and flipped my four wheeler (doing about 40-50mph). I learned my lesson the hard way. Helmets are a valuable resource and thankfully you were wearing yours. When I flipped, I hit the ground face first, had a seizure and was out cold for about 10 minutes. My dad loaded me up and we drove 4 hours back home (I lived in AZ) and went to the emergency room for a cat scan. Their bajillion dollar machine said I was fine (thank god) but I beg to differ. My short term memory has been shot ever since.

Like others have said, do yourself a favor and get checked out as soon as possible. Waiting on it can only do more damage if you did jumble up your marbles.
