Engine block heater

My 6.0 has a factory engine block heater. I am wondering if anyone can tell me how this works and what temperature it keeps the engine block.

I have heard that some block heaters only heat the oil and some actually heat the coolant and circulate the coolant around the engine block keeping the entire engine block warm.

So does anyone know how the 6.0 factory block heater works and what temp I could expect the block to be with an outside temp of 10 degrees?

Thanks in advance for all of your help.

Dhelm,

FYI, It doesn't get to 10 fegrees around here, (northern VA) but it gets cold. Commute from DC south about 35 miles to home. On a cold day in Jan, if I plug mine in when I get home 1800 (6 pm) and the temp gauge is at operating temp, It'll be at the bottom side of operating temp the next morning when I go out to start it at 0400 (4 am).
Hope this helps at least a little.

Thanks for your help guys. 4mrBowTie, it doesn't get 10 degrees here very often, just a few times a year (Asheville, NC) but we have lots of mornings in the teens and I'm glad to hear the block heater works so well. We do have the coldest climate in the Southeast due to the mountains...unless you call WV the southeast (I call it the Middle east Ha Ha).
