Ok. This is going to sound extremely crazy, but I need help installing the points & condensor back in my 68. Now before anyone says take old out and put new right in same spot, I had but the Petronix kit in like 4 years ago an it just recently burnt up on me. I went to go get a new kit but the one they seel in NE is like 140 dollars or somethin like that and I just need it running to take it to a shop to get my 9" put in, so I just got a set of points and a condensor, but looking at the distributor I was completely lost. And now Im in Japan. Oo
When I looked at my chiltons the image wasnt so good and the directions didnt help much themselves. Anyone can help me with that possibly? Such as a picture?
And many people claim the haven't had a problem with Pertronix units, two failed with me that's why I carried points in the glove box. Sorry to hear about your failure, just proves again a product that has many failures. Later when you have time look at Crane's XR 700 or better the XR 3000 ignition systems.

the 140 dollar is probley the pertonix 2, the earlier one is available on ebay for 35 bucks. i also carry a extra set of points and condensers as well as a extra coil and waterpump, and i used to have a extra alt and a extra starter too.. my bed toolbox is getting light got to go to oreillys and restock it lol
hey if you just need a quick temp fix. you can take the points off and files them with a small triangle file, if the problem is that they are burned up. then use a filler gague and reset them. I dont know what the spec is, but something like .005-.007 I think will work. It wont last long, but it will get you running for a bit.
ya know for awhile last summer i almost had one. i had a extra set of heads and crank, and a power steering gear box and pump. not to meation all the electrical stuff as well as a dizzy. Had so many parts i finally tore down my 360 and turned it into a 390. Of course that had to be done because of another reason which is a different story
Painless Wiring just released part # 30812, duraspark wiring harness. Install that & be done with points & condenser. Also, replacement parts are readily available, even east plowshare Iowa
Hey my buddy has carried a whole Toyota motor in his truck for 3 yrs. And it doesnt run. Anyway, my Petronix has been in for at least 8 yrs with no probs. I guess a guy should carry a whole diz for a spare?
Na, just points and condenser in a small plastic box with cam lube, shim stock (.016") a small 12 volt lamp with pig tails and alligator clips to time the dizzy.
I made sure it can be done and it was under 10 minutes but the Allison unit has never failed going on 18 years.

Do you have any idea what the wire harness costs everything else that is need for the conversion can be had for less than 100 bucks at autozone.
here is a diagram for duraspark 2. I know you asked about changing back to points, but as fitzwell mentioned this is a conversion you might want to consider.
