Carl I had a set on a BBC I had with Offy breathers on them..And because of the crinkle finish in between the fins..I played hell keeping them clean?? LOL....
Russ, that's the reason i'm running unpainted Cal Custom covers, paint thinner wash downs. Last night on ebay I ran across Aluminum 427 blocks in cammer or side oiler by Robert Pond Motorsport. He wanted around $3,500 side oiler, $4,500 cammer block, he's in Riverside Ca. Now I can't find his listing, anybody ever hear of him before? Looking for his email address. What a weight savings with a fully aluminum 482 that would require shorter front springs. Just dreaming now that I have "Gabapentin" for back pain but can sleep at night. Waiting for insurance approval for a MRI. Any storm weather get to you?
.....=o&o>.....
Here it is Carl item # 7995465559 Aluminum blocks are $4500 which that auction is for and his iron blocks are $3500. All are sideoilers. The cammer blocks just have the oil drainbacks for the heads tapped. They are a really nice block. Robert first introduced himself on the net54 forum along with his blocks. AND I remember seeing STACKS of aluminum head castings behind the blocks in his original pics. hmmmmm.
G.
Well I have never delt with Robert Pond, so I cant comment.. But one thing I am very glad to see...Like Brian's post (Scoot) there are more and more people making new blocks for us Old Dogs that love the FE motors, It comes at a price tho...As does any good speed part..
Ya ever stop and think we must be Die Hards thru and thru!! For the Price we pay for parts to get are Bricks up to speed....How many Small block Chevs could ya build?? LOL..
And Carl, I'am glad to hear your doing better...that Crap of going without sleep will kill ya !!
Well the post for $2500 sideoiler blocks certainly got my attention! That's $1k cheaper than the going rate. Yea Russ I have a really hard time understanding sometimes prices on FE items. To think I passed on a $800 cammer back in the 80's and thought it was just to much money at the time LOL! G.
On a side note I emailed Doug at Precision for some info on the 427 blocks. I'll add any further info to Brains thread.
O/T slightly? that brings back a story... My little Bro..has always bee a ford freak..even tho we were brought up GM..Until 72 when I bought the 70F250 and beat my Dad new 72 Cheyenne with the 402 and the Locker rear end..
My liitle Bro has restored probably 20 Mustangs, a couple 57 ford business man coupes,Cougers etc..you get the point...and made a Number of hotrods too..But he's West Coast and I am now South East..LOL..
We were looking for a cammer for his 65 Mustang 2+2 years ago....We made a trip down the road in Harbor City SoCal..A place for a swap meet at Gasoline alley!! I ran across a Cammer Short block..this was in 77..and the guy wanted $600 for it....They were asking how the hell I was going to move it from the swap meet area to my Truck?? I said I really dont know? I had'nt thought about that? So I reached down and tried to pick it up..Just to see how Heavy it was.. and it was a Bitch...
There was about 6 or 7 guys at that spot drinking and partying..And the Owner of the short block Just laughed at me for trying to pick it up..and told me if you can pick it up and carry it to your truck..I'll give it to you!! As he laughed!! I said well it was stupid on my part to try it, as I have a bad back from Racing Motorcycles early on in life...But! Can I have my Little Brother Try it? He said your Little Brother? I said yeah he doesnt have a bad back and he's 2 years younger than I am.. Well about then we had about 40 to 50 people gathered around taking all this wheelin and dealin in..
From the peer pressure I guess from the crowd he finally agree's to let my Little Bro try...Now this man has 6 of my 100 dollar bills in his hand... I called Ralph (my Little bro) He stands 6'3" weighed at that time 245lbs.. and had been in high School a 3 time all state weight lifting champ!! LOL.. Ralph reached down and snatched the block and walked a 1/4 of a mile to my truck with a big A$$ crowd following us..I dropped the tail gate he slid the block in..I put the gate back up..and the guy that had my money was trying to get out of the crowd and leave..But the crowd stoped him..and brought him back..and he handed over the $600... One Free Cammer short block!!
We had tryied to get other motors in the same fashion...but the story had allready spread...LOL..Awww that seems like yesterday!! I think I'll call him today and see what he's got on his drawing board?? LOL..
