Upfitter SW ?

Well I did it I broke down and traded in my 04 Lariat CC and bought an 05 SC. The 04 served me faithfully for 2 years and 51,000 miles. But it was either refinance to get the ex's name off or buy a new one, so I no longer have a wife , but have a beatiful new 05 XLT . This thing is loaded and with luck will serve me as well as the 04.
Now, what have people used the upfitter switches for?? ( sorry I've been gone for awhile.

Aaarrgh! Could you maybe change the title to something like "Upfitter switch uses" or something fitting like that? People see enough problem threads without one saying Broke down when nothing's wrong.

PS - congrats on the new truck.

Oh, for the question... uses I've seen others do:

-high idle (just hook up the SEIC wires to the switch, presto)
-aux. backup lights
-aux. driving lights
-mirror heater switch to control when heat in them comes on
-etc.....

Do you have any input as to how to do this wiring for the heated mirrors switch? Seems like a good idea as you really don't need to heat the mirrors in the summer, and wear the heaters out. Is this an easy wire job?

I don't know the wiring myself, no. That one of the first things I'll be doing when I get mine, though. I'll be sure to post how I did it once I figure it out, though. I'd imagine you just need to open the door panel and find the wire going to the mirror that's hot when the engine's on, and wire the switch into it so you can open that circuit up until you want the heat to come on.

EDIT - rather than using a switch to control the mirrors, some have just pulled the fuse for them. For example, if you live in Nevada and it's hot all the time, you probably never need to use the mirror heat to defrost them, so rather than waste a switch that you'll never be flipping, you could just pull the fuse and be done with it.

The reason people turn off the mirror heat is just because they don't want them warm when there's no need for it, and also because they've experienced water spots on them because of the heat.

Oooooh no, I do need them in the winter. I live next to Northern Nevada but up in the Sierra's in the Lake Tahoe region. Things do freeze here. Those heated mirrors are a nice thing to have out here. During the summer, it's a different story. I will take a look at the wires to see if it jumps out at me which is for the mirrors. I have been looking for use for the four upfitters for a while now. So far I am looking at 1) high idle 2) reverse lights 3) heated mirrors disconnect. That leaves me one more to figure out what would be a plus in my life.
Thanks, Tim

I found a 12 volt timer circuit with the relays built in to it. Bought the momentary switch and a led from radio shack. Used the hot wire going to my cigar lighter/power point and the heated function for my mirrors works perfect. From what I've read, each mirror only pulls about 1.5 amps. I can get you the part numbers for the timers and 11 pin base and the supply house I bought it from if you want this circuit. The wiring is easy, I can email this to you also. Let me know.

The magic wire color on my 05 is green with a purple tracer in the middle towards the bottom of the fuse panel on the back, what you need to do is to cut the wire and wire in the upfitter to the harness side of the the wire and what I did was to put a butt connector on the fuse panel side but don't hook anything up to it. Hope this helps.

Welcome back and Congratulations, sounds like a nice upgrade!

Upfitters as I used them:
  1. ARB air pump
  2. Rear ARB locker
  3. Front ARB locker
  4. High idle (for winching)

lose the wife, and get a new truck. Sounds like something that might be happening in my near future. Sorry to hear about the divorce. But sweet truck.
I have 1 tied to disable the siren on my alarm, I have 1 of the mini alarm pagers. Don't think a crook will think to hit a switch on the dash to turn it off. But I will when I know the pager is in range. Greet em w/ a baseball bat. Had my car broken into too many times.

Congrats on the truck. I use one of my switches for the high idle and another one I connected to the dome light in my truck cap. I am thinking of hooking up lights onto my hitch to see better in reverse or to use when hooking up trailers in the dark-also thinking of putting a couple of lights around the bed rails to light up the entire bed at night.

Yes, it will work on 06's! Ryanverk (the James Dean guy ) had instructions that I followed, can't find those but check out the Tech Folder 'stickie' at the top of this forum, it's about 3/4 down the page in there. It's real easy to do, didn't even finish my beer!

Thanks Kepler4,
You are right, I didn't have a beer but feel sure I would not have finished it.
Was very easy to hook up the high idle.
Does anyone have pics of the lights in the back for backing up or hooking up trailer?
Thanks
